Product detailed description
A Treasure from the Chestnut Grove
At More Than Honey, we have a deep love for exceptional honeys — and one of them is Italian chestnut honey. The sweet chestnut trees growing on the slopes around Lake Garda are used to produce traditional delicacies such as beer, flour, and this truly unique honey.
We met a local beekeeper (4th from the left in the group photo) from the town of San Zeno di Montagna, explored an ancient chestnut grove, and tasted the fruits of his work. The conclusion was clear — chestnut honey simply had to be part of our selection. So, what makes it so special?
A Honey of Distinct Taste and Aroma
Chestnut honey stands out with its unique aroma, flavor, and color.
- It carries the scent of chestnut blossoms, ripe chestnuts, nuts, and herbs.
- It’s less sweet than regular honey, with a slightly bitter finish.
- You’ll also notice a subtle floral profile that balances its earthy tones.
- Compared to typical blossom honey, it’s much bolder and more grounded.
- Some liken it to red wine – it contains tannins, which give it both bitterness and a darker hue.
Why You’ll Love It
We highly recommend chestnut honey if you’re looking for a unique tasting experience and aren’t afraid of bold flavors. There are plenty of ways to enjoy it.
- It pairs beautifully with hard cheeses and nuts – perfect for evening snacking.
- Adds a touch of exotic flavor and gentle sweetness to sauces and marinades.
- Try spreading it on buttered bread and topping with crushed nuts – pure luxury!
- It’s also used as a sweetener in coffee, as it doesn’t overpower the flavor.
